"Out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks."

Rules and Regulations December 13, 2008

I’ll assume, until you give me reason to believe otherwise, that we’re all clever enough to engage in intelligent conversation without cursing and figuratively poking each others’ eyes out.  I will warn you, however, that if you open that can, I will not be held responsible for the verbal massacre that will ensue.  I also reserve the right to ignore and/or remove any of your future antagonistic comments:  in vain will you have poured your angry soul into meticulously expressing every vindictive condescension that you’d never be man enough to say to my face.  I will click “delete” with no remorse and you will be branded as a small-minded, pathetic loser who never forgave those bullies for stealing your lunch money.

I am in love with the truth.  You and I may disagree in part or on the whole of what the truth may be.  I will not accept your viewpoint as “equally plausible,” nor would I ask that of you.  “Agreeing to disagree” is so cliché, but there’s a reason for that.  My respect will be for you as a human being – scarred and sinful like me – trying to figure out this “living” thing one day at a time.  A person is defined by the strength of their convictions.  Without strong beliefs, you are a ship tossed about on a restless ocean, with no bearings and nothing firm to stand on.  I hope to gain insight from what you have to say, and I promise to consider every word.  If you will commit to do the same, together we will quickly surpass the wisdom of much of the civilized world, whether or not we arrive on common ground.
